Art: The Messenger
Going Global in Small Town USA
Everywhere we turn, it seems times are in transition and we question, “What happens next?” Standing on a precipice of newly acquired knowledge we wonder what solutions must be made to ensure a future for generations to come. Our modern medias blast with an incisive bombardment of facts or fictitious spin and we must sift through hoping to find the big picture.
Enlightenment sometimes springs from curious places and so how surprised you might be walking down a street in Smalltown, Anywhere USA, and suddenly, just across the street from the local post office, there is an intriguing art gallery. Through the glass doors, you are unexpectedly transformed by an extraordinary exhibit space and the awe-inspiring size of colorful canvases.
Located on street level in a dominating four story historic Masonic Temple ART: THE MESSENGER is a cultural delight for the small city of Butler, located 35 miles north of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. The exhibit origins are from Long Island New York and the subject matter is all about the big picture in our modern times and future times to come.
Originally, from Haiti, Carlo Thertus is a born artist who never attended art school or instruction yet he remains to be one of the most prolific Artists of our time. Thertus’ paintings unite in a comprehensive theme, giving a critical and much needed message to humanity. Driven to paint by dreams, passion and honor, Thertus found this exceptional gallery admirable for presentation of his passionate pieces. He believes that art has its own function in our world and that according to the world’s conditions today, art in itself is the messenger of our time.
While surfing the worldwide web, Carlo discovered The Art Center, the home of the non-profit group, Associated Artists of Butler County. The mission of the organization, to Encourage, Foster and Promote the Arts in Butler County and Beyond, was consistent with his vision. Because the dice was cast and communications open, visitors from the tri-state area have a wonderful opportunity to experience 14 plus original works of world-class art in a small, rural city. All paintings are for sale and signed and numbered prints are available as well. The exhibit remains on view through Friday, August 22.
A VIP PRIVATE VIEW wine and cheese reception is scheduled for Sunday, August 24th 3 to 8 pm. The artist will be present to sign prints, and meet buyers, students, collectors and admirers. Interested individuals may contact exhibits@zoominternet.net or call 724-283-6922. To learn more about the artist, and The Art Center visit: www.theartcenterbutlerpa.org

The Associated Artists of Butler County is one of the oldest cultural organization in Butler County. Our rich history began in 1934 as our intent to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, as well as to encourage and foster art. From 19 original members our organization has grown to over 300 members.
In 1990 The Associated Artists of Butler County moved to our current residence at 344 South Main Street and established The Art Center. The new home of the Associated Artists of Butler County provides year round exhibits free and open to the public for viewing. There are on average nine shows a year scheduled in the Main Rittelmann Gallery. The Member's Gallery, The Underground Gallery and The Mezzanine Gallery are also located on site. The Kid's Art Center features work by our young artists in the After School Program. We have several classrooms, a pottery lab with kilns and a library. The Gallery Shop provides the public with the opportunity to purchase work by our many talented members.
The Spirit Cafe is held every Friday night (except during opening receptions) from 7 – 9 pm & serves as an open forum for the expression of art.
The Art Center's Mission: To encourage, foster, and promote the arts in the Butler County Community.
