The Black Sheep Puppet Festival, the longest running yearly puppet festival in the country, greatly expands its programming in celebration of our TENTH straight year! Check out the wide range of activities comprising this year's planned events.

The Tenth Annual Black Sheep Puppet Festival is presented by the Brew House Association and organized by a large and dedicated team of volunteers, including artistic director Tom Sarver and managing director Mike Cuccaro.

The following is a schedule of events for Black Sheep Puppet Festival Number 10 in October, 2008. All events will be at the Brew House, except where otherwise noted. Please note that these events are subject to change.
Friday, October 3, 5:30pm-9pm Gallery Crawl, Artists Upstairs, 820+937 Liberty Ave. Free. Guerrilla puppet performances throughout the evening in both spaces as a preview of what's to come, featuring The Apathetic Anarchists.
Friday, October 10, 7pm-10pmFestival Kick-Off! 10/10 for Number 10!Gallery Opening at Brew House Space 101. Free.This is a gallery exhibit you can handle! Interact with puppets of all different styles, meet the artists, watch demonstrations, and participate! Also, there will be shadow puppetry shows by Spica Wobbe (Taiwan).
Saturday & Sunday, October 11-12, 1pm-4pm"Puppet Weekend" at the Children's Museum, North Side.Puppet tours and shows on Saturday. Puppet workshops on Sunday.
Wednesday, October 15, 7pm Gallery Talk at Brew House Space 101. Free.
Thursday, October 16, 7pm 24-Hour Puppet Reality Experiment begins live on the internet. Free.Fifteen people from a diversity of backgrounds and interests will be grouped into 3 teams of 5, given tools, materials, and studio space at the Brew House, and tasked with creating 3 new puppet shows which will be performed in front of a live audience in only 24 hours! The Black Sheep Puppet Festival thanks PodCamp Pittsburgh 3 for social media promotion and technical expertise.
Friday, October 17, 7pm-10pm 24-Hour Puppet Reality Experiment performance! $10.An evening performance featuring the brand-new creations by our teams along with a performance from Janaki Ranpura (San Francisco) and a Puppet Slam where we'll have an open microphone where anyone is welcome to come up on stage and try out a five-minute puppet show.
Saturday, October 18, 1pm-2:30pmHandmade Puppet Dreams "For Kids" at Regent Square TheaterCo-presented with Pittsburgh Filmmakers. Handmade Puppet Dreams is a selection of short puppet films by independent artists curated by Heather Henson. "For Kids" pulls the best pieces of the three collections for family enjoyment.
Saturday, October 18, 3pm-5pmMatinee Program A. $5 (Free for kids 12 and under).A family-friendly performance featuring Janaki Ranpura (San Francisco), Flora Shepherd, and Fuzzy Boundary Productions.
Saturday, October 18, 7pm-10pm Performance Program I. $10.An evening performance featuring Janaki Ranpura (San Francisco), Major Arcana, Flora Shepherd, Tinkers Ball and Fare Feather Family.
Sunday, October 19, 1pm-7pmHandmade Puppet Dreams Marathon at Melwood Screening RoomCo-presented with Pittsburgh Filmmakers.Handmade Puppet Dreams is a selection of short puppet films by independent artists curated by Heather Henson. All three collections will be screened along with puppet film submissions from local artists! Multiple seatings throughout the afternoon so come late if you miss the start!
