The Office of Public Art announces a Request for Qualifications for a work of public art on Market Street in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is working with the Office of Public Art to commission an artist to create a work of public art on Market Street in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The commissioned work of art will have a lighting component. The artist budget for the project is $19,500. The project will be completed by August 2010.
The Streetscapes Study prepared for the Downtown Living Initiative by the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh suggests streetscape improvements to enhance Sixth and Market Streets as primary pedestrian connection linking the Cultural District, First Side, and Market Square. The City, Mayor's Office, and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership have embarked on a multi-million dollar project to renovate these corridors.
As part of the overall improvements in this district and following the recommendations of the Streetscape Study, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership decided to commission a work of art to be located on Market Street. The work of art will enhance the pedestrian experience between the triangle park at Three PNC and the newly renovated Market Square, making a strong connection between the Cultural District and Market Square.
