GPAC Artist Opportunity Grants Due March 1, 2011

Artist Opportunity Grants

  • Next Deadline: Tuesday, March 1, 2011
  • Eligible Applicants: Individual Artists*
  • Maximum Grant: $1,500

Greater Pittsburgh Artist Opportunity Grants help advance the careers of individual artists by providing funds to support expenses related to specific, extraordinary opportunities that have the potential to significantly impact an artist's work and professional development. Grants range from $250 to $1,500. To get started, download the Guidelines & Application.

An opportunity may be one of many things - An invitation to exhibit at a prestigious gallery, to audition for a major dance company, to study with a mentor or renowned teacher. It might be juried in some way or available only through a competitive selection process. In any case, it should not duplicate experiences the artist has had in the course of his or her ongoing work, and it must lead to professional growth in the artist's career in a clear and meaningful way.

NOTE: This grant does NOT fund art projects or the creation of new works of art. It is intended to fund professional growth opportunities for artists! If you are unclear about this distinction, feel free to contact GPAC staff to discuss your opportunity before applying. For examples of opportunities, please view the previously-funded applicants.

To get started, download the Guidelines & Application or Printable Guidelines . Previously funded grantees, please fill out a Final Report (Survey Monkey).

The Pittsburgh Art Blog

The Pittsburgh Art Blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Started on August 20,2007. pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.

the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh artist advocate rick byerly.
