Second Saturdays Saturday, May 14, 2011 Pillow Project

The fourth season continues next Saturday, May 14!

Sharing dance, light and music together in a truly unique jazz-lounge/performance-gallery atmosphere, each second Saturday of the month (April-August) features a evening open to the public of ongoing improvisational performances and live multimedia experimentations from the company and special guests.

[live music]
...Ongoing 8pm through 10pm:
Spontaneous compositions of resident Music Director, PJ Roduta and local jazz artist Charles Hall, joined by various musical friends of The Pillow.

[preview performances]
...around 9pm:
An assorted series of performance-vignettes directly based on several female characterizations in classic Quentin Tarantino films (performed by company performing artists Rebekah Kuczma, Kaylin Horgan and Bre Short)

[featured presentation]
...10pm:
The Pillow Project's fully-realized live performance montage inspired by David Fincher's distinct cinematic style of the 1999 adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's 'Fight Club' (featuring resident performing artists Taylor Knight and Kaylin Horgan). It is the story of someone out on the edge psychologically, a man living in this fraudulent idea of happiness via consumerism who does not have a world of possibilities in front of him, but instead sees no possibilities; he literally cannot imagine a way to change his life. Through confusion and outrage, an alternative reality is created in his mind, freeing him in all the ways he is not. This work is about the moment of the 'reel changeover' from one man becoming another. See the preview here.

[ongoing throughout the evening until midnight]

The Pittsburgh Art Blog

The Pittsburgh Art Blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Started on August 20,2007. pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.

the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh artist advocate rick byerly.
