Friday, March 7 7PM-10PM MODERNFORMATIONS GALLERY & PERFORMANCE SPACE - 4919 PENN AVE.AMERICANA REFIGURED Americana describes the typical characteristics of America: apple pie, baseball, barbecues, picket fences, family values, etc. The traditional ideology of Americana is not consistent with todays generations. We are no longer oblivious to sugarcoated American ideals. The new America presents itself as consumed by technology, the medicated, confused & concerned. America has become a cynical society where apple pie has been replaced by prescription drugs, & where family talks involve the family shrink. These artists have come from many different areas of America, but they all share the same concern: what is the future of American society, and should the definition of Americana be re-figured? This exhibit runs in conjunction with the national clay conference (NCECA) with artists from Pittsburgh to Boston to Japan to Philadelphia & back again.
