A Walk in Time: The Paintings of Risa Moldovan
Classical Still Lifes appreciate the Old Masters

Sewickley, Pennsylvania

January 6, 2009 … The Sewickley Gallery & Frame Shop, in partnership with Child Health Association of Sewickley, welcomes Risa Moldovan in her first local exhibit of stunning still life oil paintings. A special artist reception will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. A portion from the sale of each painting will benefit Child Health Association of Sewickley, a philanthropic organization focusing on child-related programs and services in Western Pennsylvania that directly address children’s emotional, physical, educational, cultural and recreational needs.

Ms. Moldovan’s still life paintings appreciate the technique of the High Renaissance; which enjoys a current day resurgence. Realism emerges through a veiled atmosphere of light where soft and lost edges guide her compositions. Painterly brush strokes are clearly visible coming from both a palette of muted colors and deep rich tones. Master artist, James Sulkowski, from the prestigious Art Students League of New York, guided Risa and helped her develop her passion for the Old Masters and said this of her talent, “Risa Moldovan’s art exhibits the beautiful and timeless qualities of masterful painting.”

Risa has been honing her talents since age 7, when she attended The Carnegie Museum of Art children’s classes. As a young adult she worked with many mediums, but preferred pen & ink. It was through this medium that she was able to refine her drawing and composition skills. She has taught at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and is a member of the Pennsylvania State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Ms. Moldovan, a Sewickley resident and philanthropist, believes in giving back to the community. “We are touched by the generosity of The Sewickley Gallery & Frame Shop and Artist, Risa Moldovan,” says Nancy Kury, President of Child Health Association of Sewickley. As with all money raised by Child Health Association, the money donated through this exhbition will go to various programs designed to improve the lives of children and youth throughout western Pennsylvania.

A Walk in Time: The Paintings of Risa Moldovan will be on view from January 18 through January 31, 2009. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday. For more information, contact Nancy Russell, The Sewickley Gallery & Frame Shop, at (412)741-5858 to schedule an interview with the artist.
