PA State Seeking Artists: Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2009

The Pittsburgh Galleries blog is a volunteer effort from Rick Byerly to promote Pittsburgh art events which feature artists from the area. Artists throughout the state can apply to showcase their work in Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2009, a juried art exhibition that is open to state residents. The 42nd annual Art of the State exhibit and will run from June 28 to Sept. 20 at The State Museum in Harrisburg.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the established or emerging artist to exhibit their work and receive statewide recognition," said Barbara Franco, executive director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, which oversees The State Museum.

Artists can compete in five categories: painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture and craft. For the first time, submissions will be done by digital images. Applications are available at www.statemuseumpa.org and by calling the museum at 717-783-9904 or the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council at 717-238-5180. The application deadline is March 1.
