Heritage & Creativity: Policy Opportunities for the 21st Century
A lecture by former NEA Chair Bill Ivey
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
12:00pm-1:30pm
Hamburg Hall, Room 1000
Carnegie Mellon University
4800 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Fresh from his work with President Obama's transition team, Bill Ivey will discuss the burgeoning policy opportunities at the intersection of heritage, creativity and the public purpose. His recent book, Arts, Inc.: How Greed and Neglect Have Destroyed Our Cultural Rights, has been described as "not just a vital book about the arts but a vital book about democracy."

Bill Ivey is the Director of the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise, and Public Policy at Vanderbilt University, an arts policy research center with offices in Nashville, Tennessee and Washington, DC. From 1998 through 2001, Ivey served as the seventh Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Following years of controversy and significant reductions in NEA funding, Ivey’s leadership is credited with restoring Congressional confidence in the work of the NEA.
