PLENTY OF SLEEP WHEN WE’RE DEAD is a four-person exhibition featuring the latest work of Mike Egan, Josh Iddings, Ron Copeland and Christian Breitkreutz. See how all four artists explore the concept of life, death and the small time we have in between to achieve the goals and desires that each one of us has. Prepare to see a wide range of styles from obsessively pieced together screen-printed collage work to stylized narratives to brilliantly executed “funeral portraits” and see how these artists collectively convey the thoughts you are too frightened to have. fastfwdart@gmail.com

The Pittsburgh Art Blog
pittsburgh galleries is reborn anew as The Pittsburgh Art Blog. the blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Started on August 20, 2007.
pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.
the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh art advocate rick byerly, www.RickByerly.com.

Unsmoke Art Space, the Braddock Mayor’s Office, and the Water Filter Project of the Braddock Carnegie Library, invite you to an upcoming event and exhibition at the Unsmoke gallery.
1137 Braddock Ave.Braddock, PA 15104
Here’s a brief description: The Ceramic Water Filter Receptacle Show: After Hurricane Mitch devastated much of Central America, Ron Rivera, the international coordinator for Potter’s for Peace, developed the ceramic water filter to help relieve the problems in Nicaragua. In many countries where the water filter is produced, local potters make artisan ceramic vessels as receptacles. In an effort to promote the water filter and gain greater recognition of the viability of this simple, life-saving design, members of the Slippery Rock University Potter’s Guild organized the first Potter’s for Peace water filter receptacle show.An exhibition of artisanal ceramic receptacles was mounted in Slippery Rock in November of 2005. The show traveled to West Virginia, then North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Texas and Missouri. At each venue, more ceramic artists joined and contributed pieces. Some of the water filter receptacles to be displayed at the Unsmoke Gallery were first exhibited in Pittsburgh during the NCECA Conference. New work has been added and afterwards the pieces will be shipped to Phoenix and continue to travel on the West Coast. The filter is made by pressing a mixture of clay and sawdust into a flower pot shape. When it is fired, the sawdust is burned away, leaving numerous holes to allow water to pass through the permeable walls. The filter is then impregnated with nano-particles of silver that act as an antimicrobial agent. The receptacles on display are the crafted vessels in which the filter sits. The Braddock exhibition will serve as a launch point for the pottery shop in the original Carnegie Library in Braddock. Currently, Jeff Swartz, an AmeriCorps volunteer, is the director of the first filter production facility in North America. The objective is to make the Braddock Pot Shop and the facility at Slippery Rock University a training center for water filter technicians.Flier for show and opening event attached. Please come out to see these beautiful ceramic pieces!
