"Looking for Clues: Selected Images 2003 – 2010" is an exhibition of Brian Sesack’s journey in finding his own voice as a black and white fine art photographer. Included are images that have been juried into previous exhibitions and several thematic bodies of work in which he conveys a concept or human emotion without the use of written language.

The exhibition will open on the 29th of April within the offices off The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council as part of the Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This body of work was selected by the Arts Council for their Art on the Walls, a juried bi-annual, solo exhibition for individual artists in the Greater Pittsburgh region.

The Gallery Crawl on April 29th will take place between 5:30 and 9:00 p.m. Normal hours for the exhibition are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday until September 23, 2011.

2nd annual May Day Parade in Polish Hill, May 1 2011

May is fast approaching and that means it’s time for the 2nd annual May Day Parade in Polish Hill. On Sunday May 1st all are welcome to participate in the celebration of long awaited Spring and the continuing history of worker’s rights. May Day has gone through many incarnations throughout history in its meaning and form as a celebration and movement. What we hope to have again is a peaceful and all-inclusive gathering of peo...ple celebrating their own lives, their families, and their communities as working people, in solidarity with all the working classes of the world. Of course it is also about the bringing in of the new season in all its lushness!

The parade will begin on the dead end of Lower Melwood in North Oakland, two blocks past Filmmakers. Participants should meet at 12:30 p.m. and be ready to parade at 1:00 p.m. The route will wrap up to Gold Way, enter Polish Hill, follow upper Melwood, a quick second to cross Herron, then along Dobson and finally to Brereton and end in West Penn Park. All ages are encouraged to parade! Bikes encouraged to participate, but no motor vehicles unless it's a float.

This year the parade will culminate in a community potluck and barbecue, as well as a baseball game in the field. The game begins at 2:30…Pittsburgh versus Brooklyn! Come support the home team!!! Bring some food to grill and enjoy the live play by play. A bunch of bands at the court as well...

Fleeting Pages opening changed from April 30th to Saturday MAY 7th

In the past three weeks, Fleeting Pages has taken on a life of its own and has grown in size. The response has been amazing. New books, zines, comics, journals, art, workshop ideas, events, are coming in every day from all over. To make sure there is enough time to move everything in and to set-up the space, the opening day had to be changed from April 30th to Saturday MAY 7th.

Take a look at the In Stock page to see the list of confirmed publishers, writers, artists...so far. More will be added as they come in. There's still time to add your work.

Update:

Fleeting Pages can finally announce the location: The former Borders in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Both floors of the space. All 24,000 sqft of it. And lucky for us, Borders left behind a considerable number of bookshelves and other useful materials.

Through the Looking Glass Project, nothing like this has ever been done before.

May 7, 2011 Lower Burrell, PA- Artform Gallery & Tattoo has come across some very interesting technology that they believe will change how the world can be interconnected. The show combines traditional and existing forms of art making with brand new technology that fits right in the palm of your hand. The goal of the show is to present this new form of communication through art. The show will feature many local artists and some worldwide. It will be unveiled at the opening on May 7th starting at 2pm going on that night till 11pm. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. The show continues till June 18th.

Artform Gallery & Tattoo was established in September of 2008 and is committed to showing artwork that is excellent and fearless. Not only does Artform provide affordable, first class fine art just outside of Pittsburgh; it is also committed to bridge the gap between “high- brow” fine art and “low- brow” tattoo art.

echo Art Fair Call for Artists in Buffalo NY

echo: Art Fair is open to local, regional and international fine artists who work in disciplines including painting, photography, sculpture, print, works on paper, video and combined-media. All works must be available for purchase and should not exceed $3,000.

Please e-mail submissions as outlined below to echoartfair@gmail.com for consideration. The submission fee is $25 for individual artists and $40 for galleries. The submission deadline is midnight EST, May 13, 2011. Applications received after the deadline will be subject to a $25 late fee. All fees are made payable to HandsOn Greater Buffalo using Paypal.

Individual Artists:
Submit up to three images of your work for consideration. Image submissions must be in JPG format, no larger than 3 MB each. Images should be labeled lastname_firstname.jpg (i.e. Smith_John.jpeg) The image you submit must be viewed in the booth at the art fair and you may choose to put your name, title, year, medium, and dimensions on the image, but this is not necessary.

Galleries:
Submit one image of each artist you intend to represent. Each gallery may submit up to five artists for consideration. Image submissions must be in JPG format, no larger than 3 MB each* Images should be labeled galleryname_artistlastname_artistfirstname.jpg (i.e. Albright_Knox_Smith_John.jpeg).

Accepted artists and galleries will be sent notifications on or by June 10, 2011. The booth/exhibition fees are $250 for a 10ft by 10ft booth and $450 for a 10ft by 15ft booth.

Schedule:

May 13, 2011: Deadline for Submission
By June 10, 2011: Notification to accepted artists sent by email
July 7 - July 8 (by 12pm EST), 2011: Accepted work must arrive at the Central Terminal for setup
July 9, 2011 (6:30pm EST), 2011: All work must be removed from the Central Terminal
By July 12, 2011: Shipped work will be sent

Guidelines:

• All submitted work must be original by the artist.
• Artist notification will be sent by echoartfair@gmail.com with instructions included for exhibiting artists. Please set your spam filter to recognize this email notification.
• Images of accepted works may be used at the sole discretion of echo: Fine Art for promotional purposes including but not limited to the invitation, catalog, web site, or on subsequent years’ prospectus. Image will include attribution wherever possible.
• Maximum dimensions of any finished entry cannot exceed 72” in any one direction. No exceptions.
• All accepted work must arrive at the Central Terminal on or before 12pm EST on July 8, 2011.
• Work cannot be withdrawn before 2pm on July 9, 2011.
• echo: Fine Art will not be responsible or liable for loss or damage to artwork from any cause whatsoever. Entering this exhibition shall constitute understanding and agreement on the part of the artist with the conditions stated. Insurance, if desired, must be carried by the artist.
