HiTEC
January 9, 2009
8:00 pm

HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative) is an independent experimental orchestra founded in July of 2008 as an attempt to create a Low Classical alternative to those who worship at the temple of the fictitious and propagandistic "Golden Age" that's often used to justify the "Divine Rights" of cash-flow.

Unlike most (M)USICAL projects, the playing of this group revolves around THINKING about particular things while playing in a very open-ended way RATHER THAN necessarily playing specified physical actions.
HiTEC, Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative is an independent orchestra of 22 people founded by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE. It turns classic Thought Experiments such as the "Infinite Monkey Theorem" into sound waves before the very eyes & ears of its (v)audience.

The orchestra:
tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE: piano, percussion, electronics

Johan Nystrom: expanded percussion
Hyla Willis: erhu
Ben Harris: violin
David Bernabo: acoustic guitar
Kerrith Livengood: flutes
Jonathan Brodsky: monome
Spat Cannon: acoustic bass
James Gyre: drum set
Kenny Haney: Bb & bass clarinets

Hello folks,Thank you to everyone who has been showing up to help paint Lawrence The Dinosaur over the past three Saturdays. We have done a lot of great work and are getting very near to seeing the results of our efforts. This Saturday December 27th starting at 10AM we are going to assemble all of the painted dinosaur bones and get our fist look at the giant painted creature we have created. This will be an excellent opportunity for photographs so please drop by and see us at "The Door Of Hope Church in Lawrenceville 5225 Holmes Street Pittsburgh, PA 15201" Then make plans to march with the dinosaur you helped to create at Pittsburgh's First Night Parade on December 31st. People from all over the city will cheer us on when they see us march past with Lawrence The Dinosaur from Lawrenceville.

Holiday Shop at PCA – Buy Local

Great work by local artists and artisans, at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Shop. Perfect for giving.

Now available: the new DVD Pittsburgh Reframed [at 250]. Made by Pittsburgh Filmmakers / Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, to honor the city's 250th anniversary, with support from the Allegheny Regional Asset District.

This collection of new shorts by local film and video artists sprang from a promotional film, simply called Pittsburgh, which was commissioned in 1958 for the city's bicentennial. It's believed there were several versions of Pittsburgh, in an attempt to please a large committee with conflicting views. But the final version (28 minutes) pleased no one, and the project was shelved. The original footage, which was recently inspected, cleaned and copied to high-definition video, is included on the disc.

Each short film in Pittsburgh Reframed [at 250] is two minutes and fifty seconds long, and includes sections of the original footage, reconfigured. Local artists participating include: Mike Bonello, Tony Buba, Olivia Ciummo, Brian Cohen, Matthew R. Day, Tess Allard, Carolina Loyola Garcia, Anna Hawkins, Ben Hernstrom, Charlie Humphrey, Thad Kellstadt, Brady Lewis, Michael Mallis, Jesse McLean, Bob Rutkowski, Elizabeth Seamans, Minette Seate, Chris Smalley, Josh Tonies and Lucian Wintrich.

Thru Dec 24, our hours are extended:Tue & Wed – 10am to 5pm ... Thurs – 10am to 9pm ... Fri & Sat – 10am to 7pm ... Sundays – noon to 5pm.
