Seven Guitars by August Wilson

Directed by Mark Clayton Southers

Seven Guitars focuses on the 1948 funeral of one of the seven main characters, showing events leading to the funeral in flashbacks. True to its mission to present all ten plays in Pulitzer Prize winner Wilson’s “Pittsburgh Cycle,” PPTCO offers its sixth play in the series—a brilliantly constructed examination of the African-American male's fight for his own humanity in the face of personal and societal ills. Last season's production of August Wilson's Two Trains Running at PPTCO was ranked #3 in Post-Gazette theater critic Christopher Rawson's “Best Theatre Evenings of 2008”.

Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre 542 Penn Avenue Downtown Pittsburgh 412-288-0358 Small company specializing in local work. Theater Festival in Black and White matches white playwrights with black directors and vice versa. Creator is local playwright, producer and director Mark Clayton Southers.
