Echoes from the Rustbelt: An exchange of ideas and clay between Cleveland & Pittsburgh ceramic artists(An Independent Concurrent NCECA 2008 Exhibition) Background: Planet Art Gallery along with Northern Ohio Clay (a group of professional ceramic artists), are hosting an independent concurrent NCECA exhibition during the NCECA 2008 Conference being held in Pittsburgh , March 18th-22nd, 2008.
The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) is a professional association of individuals and organizations whose interests, talents and careers are focused on the ceramic arts. United by a fascination with the responsive, captivating medium of clay and its potential for creative expression, NCECA members share a conviction that the work of the hand has the power to shape lives. NCECA is dedicated to ensuring the future of an art form that has been a common thread in human culture for over 30,000 years. This year, NCECA 2008, 42nd Annual Conference Confluence: Innovation, Community, Environment will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center , Pittsburgh , PA from March 19-22, 2008. ?Echoes from the Rustbelt? is an independent concurrent show addressing the long history and pervasive influence of the steel industry on both cities. The invited artists have an immediate connection with the history of the Pittsburgh or Cleveland Steel Industry.
