The Gallery 4 presents Consumed: A Solo Exhibition by Shawn Roberts.
"Consumed" opens Saturday, July 2, 2011 and runs through Saturday, July 30, 2011 at The Gallery4 (206 S. Highland Ave., Shadyside, 412-363-5050).
The opening reception will take place Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 7-11PM and be open to the general public with complimentary refreshments and hors d'oeuvres provided by The Gallery 4. The Gallery 4 is open Tuesday through Saturday 1- 8PM .
Artist's Statement:
"Like a mother open armed, ready to welcome her child from the womb; holding them so tightly hoping to never let go...
From youth we are coaxed, embraced, and smothered with love from our close friend and worst enemy, consumerism. I have chosen Disney (mouse ears) as the key iconic symbol to represent consumption. With its branded innocence and unsettling desire for perfection, for smoothly integrating children into this lifestyle from birth. Feeding off insecurities, awkward phases of sexuality, and creating a culture overwhelmed and oversaturated with vanity and addiction."
