The Pittsburgh Galleries blog is a volunteer effort from Rick Byerly to promote Pittsburgh art events which feature artists from the area. Don't miss out on the opening for Zombo's Big Hang Up this Friday January 9, 2009 from 6-11 pm. Zombo is the only gallery I know of which provides this type of opportunity for people to hang a piece of art without paying up front. Support Zombo Gallery! I'll have a print titled "Iron Face" which is a 20 by 30 print matted to 24 by 36".

Our Second Annual "Big Hang Up" opens Friday, Jan 9th at 6pm.This is our mini "Art All Night" style event. This is where we open the floodgates to the gallery and invite YOU to bring YOUR artwork to hang in the gallery for the entire month of January. (Show Closes Jan.30).Bring any kind/style/media artwork (with label and price) to the gallery on Jan 8th and we will do the rest. (20% commission to the gallery on all sales). If you are interested in performing on either the opening or closing receptions, just let us know.

The Opening Parties are usually on the first Saturday of each month from 5:30 till 10:30, The Closing Parties are usually on the last Saturday of each month and will feature The Zombo Emporium with Pittsburgh’s Coolest Vinyl Vendors, Collectable Vendor, and Cheap Arty Stuff with Guest Djs from 5pm-10pm.

The Gallery hours are Fridays 5pm-7:30pm. Additional Hours by Appointment Phone 412-904-3703

The Zombo Gallery is not only Lawrenceville’s newest gallery, but it is Pittsburgh home for hip lowbrow art. It is artwork that is rooted in 1950’s and 60’s pop culture and kitsch. It follows along the lines of San Francisco’s Juxtapoz Magazine. The gallery houses a retail area with similar themed wares such as Tiki mugs, Custom T-shirts, DVDs, CDs and recorded air checks of Zombo’s Record Party radio show that is heard Fridays from 10am-3pm on Pittsburgh’s WRCT 88.3 FM. The gallery is located at 4900 Hatfield St. Pittsburgh, PA 15201 and also houses a custom screen printing shop.
