THREE RIVERS ARTS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2009 DATES
50th Anniversary Three Rivers Arts Festival, June 5-14, 2009

PITTSBURGH – The 50th annual Three Rivers Arts Festival, a programming division of The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, will be held in downtown Pittsburgh June 5-14, 2009. The 2009 Festival will include the Artists Market, live outdoor concerts, family-friendly events and visual arts.

“In response to feedback from participating artists and audiences, we have decided to change the festival to a new 10-day format,” said J. Kevin McMahon, president and CEO of The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. “Given our planning timeline and current budget, the concentrated period will allow us to focus on ensuring the quality of the programming.”

At 10 days, the Three Rivers Arts Festival remains the largest and longest free cultural event in Pittsburgh, and is still one of the longest multidisciplinary arts festivals in the United States.

“Because the Festival is a destination event, we expect attendance to be comparable to recent years regardless of its duration,” added Mr. McMahon. “We are working quickly to line up diverse programming that will attract visitors from around the region.” Past attendance estimates have ranged from 400,000 to 600,000 attendees.

The Artists Market will continue in its traditional home at One, Two and Three Gateway Center Plaza. Full programming details will be released in the spring.
