Exhibit and Opening Reception: CMU Students Display Visions of a Community River Center

Students in the Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture invite you to view their design proposals for a Community River Center in Lawrenceville. Join them for an opening reception at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at borelli-edwards galleries.

The architecture students have put their creative energy in developing proposals that "re-connect" the community to the Allegheny River. 11 project proposals offer connections that strengthen the emerging community ties to the region’s natural and cultural systems. La Vie Gallery's Ground Control and BE Galleries Fiber Arts Show

Ground Control at La Vie Gallery was well attended and it was clear people were engaged and responding to the show. Tommy Bones' work fit the theme perfectly with many colored moon-like square blocks whereby patrons seemed fixated on trying to determine what materials were used. Jairan Sadeghi's work always commands attention and her work in this show does not disappoint. Thommy Conroy's images on canvas are beautifully done and on the other end of the spectrum Renee Ruth Ickes' "Young Republican" and Gavin Kenyon's work depecting warcraft via iron axes and wooden craft swords via childhood bring the edge. All of the works there are significant so I suggest you make a trip to La Vie Gallery and check it out during their regular hours of Wednesday thru Saturday 12 – 6pm, Sunday 12 – 3pm and by appointment as well. 3609 Butler St Pittsburgh, PA in Lawrenceville 15201, website www.laviepittsburgh.com .
Ground Control runs until May 4, 2008.

I didn't know until I was at La Vie Saturday that the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh has an exhibit at Be Galleries which is just across the street. I had about 10 minutes before they closed to check out the work so I can't do it justice but some work did stand out to me in that brief time including work from Anna Divinsky (and work from another by the last name of Divinski as well), David Watts, Kitty Spangler and Tina Brewer. Since it's a group show there are too many to name so check it out and see for yourself! Art Exhibit and Grand Opening Event: Borelli-Edwards Galleries in Blackbird Artist Studios

Please join Borelli-Edwards Galleries at their Grand Opening Event September 7 and 8 at 3583 Butler Street in Lawrenceville.

The festivities kick off with an exciting museum-quality exhibition on Friday, September 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. Outstanding works from regional artists will be on display, as well as original Japanese Woodblock prints dated 1937-1942. The collection is titled "Great Japanese Fish Picture Collection" and features the work by Ohno Bakafu. Enjoy refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts while listening to the Manchester Craftsman’s Guild Jazz Ensemble. Exhibitions continue through September 29.

The festivities continue on Saturday, September 8 with artist lectures. At 11 a.m., Joy Borelli-Edwards will be giving the lecture "History, Politics and Art or How Ohno’s Great Japanese Picture Collection was Created." At 1 p.m., artist Frank J. Kurtik will be discussing an overview of renowned regional artists. At 3 p.m. Mark Mentzer, a Lawrenceville-based artist and professor at Carnegie Mellon University, will be talking about his own work process and technique.

Don’t miss these exciting and fun events to celebrate the renowned Borelli-Edwards Galleries opening in its new location at the Blackbird Artist Studios in Lawrenceville. Dress in creative formal wear for Friday evening, and please RSVP to the gallery by calling 412.687.2606. All events are free and open to the public, with valet parking available Friday evening.
