Creepy meets eye candy in the always dreamy, strikingly cinematic and artfully playful photographic explorations of Pittsburgh-based artist Corey LeChat.

Candy Dreams of Spacemen: Corey LeChat’s photographic odyssey fuels moxie DaDA Gallery Sat, Aug 9, 6-9 p.m. The exhibit runs until August 30, 2008.

Creepy meets eye candy in the always dreamy, strikingly cinematic and artfully playful photographic explorations of Pittsburgh-based artist Corey LeChat, whose latest series of 35 mm color photographs is featured in a new exhibition opening Saturday at moxie DaDA Gallery on the North Side.
Prepare to step into the LeChat’s singular photographic stratosphere, as the artist turns the watchful gaze of his lens toward toy rocket ships, off-kilter astronauts and color-drenched dimensions, creating psychologically charged tableaux that confront viewers with their unsettling blend of the surreal and hyper-real.

At once in your face and ethereal, LeChat’s painterly technique results in dreamlike images that seem to capture his subjects in both frozen and free fall moments. In LeChat’s galaxy, attack ships rage in colorful bursts of fire and light, while space vessels shimmer in the vast dark universe.

LeChat’s work has been exhibited at The Three Rivers Arts Festival, Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Fe Gallery, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Recognized with purchase awards from Four Systems and Westinghouse, LeChat has also shown work in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Prague, and Japan.

Fittingly, Saturday’s reception will feature an original Theremin score (think sci-fi horror flick meets Good Vibrations) composed and performed by LeChat himself. In between all of the mind-altering sights and sounds, nosh on out of this world space snacks and sip neon-hued Tang.

Call it one giant step for creativity.

Update- Some info says 6-9 pm others 7-10pm- I called Moxie Dada and they confirmed it opens at 6pm- could go to 10pm based on crowd.
