What is Park(ing) Day?

PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, international event in which artists, designers, activists and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces.

Mission:
The event is an opportunity to have people think about how important public spaces are and how parks improve our communities. These park installations aim to transform urban environments designed for vehicle use into a communal space for public use.

PARK(ing) spaces come in all sizes and styles. It could be an art installation, interactive demonstration, place to sit, or showcase for urban farming and gardening. A park bench, tree and grass works too! There are countless of imaginative ways to transform a metered parking space. For inspiration, you can view images of previous-year spots at http://parkingday.org/.

The Pittsburgh Art Blog

The Pittsburgh Art Blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Started on August 20, 2007.pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh art advocate rick byerly, www.RickByerly.com.

Pittsburgh NCECA Art Exhibit Schedule of Events

What's the NCECA? It's the National Council on Education for Ceramic Arts. A Pittsburgh Convention? It's their national convention happening from Wednesday March 19 through Saturday March 22, 2008. It means there's a lot of art to be seen during March of 2008 and beyond. Over 5,000 visitors will be in Pittsburgh to participate in the conference and many art groups, galleries, and artists are taking part by displaying art work. For now check out the pdf schedule here http://www.nceca.net/pdfs/2008/2008exhibitionlisting.pdf which will show all the participating venues. Whether you're a part of the convention or not this is a chance to see Pittsburgh celebrate art in many mediums, primarily ceramics.
The art exhibit information for each area will be posted in the next few days here and will be adapted from the NCECA schedule in order for anyone in the Pittsburgh area to find out what's happening during this exciting time for the NCECA and for Pittsburgh art. Conference members will most likely be on a tour bus on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 seeing these exhibits throughout the area. Check the home page of the blog www.PittsburghGalleries.blogspot.com in a few days to see the other area guides for March 2008. Each listing has start and end dates as well as hours for the venue so you'll know when you can check out all the art. You can download the pdf with all the area art exhibit info and conference activities here http://www.nceca.net/pdfs/2008/2008exhibitionlisting.pdf .
To learn more about the NCECA Pittsburgh Conference check out http://www.nceca.net/conference/2008/index.html .
