Innovation Lives at PTC's 15 Minutes Gallery
Innovation Lives at PTC's 15 Minutes Gallery
From the polio vaccine and the pull-tab can to the Ferris Wheel and the air brake, Pittsburgh has long been a city of innovative firsts and ingenuous inventions. This week, as the whole world is watching, a new exhibition explores and celebrates the city's 21st-century drive, spirit and creativity via the work of local artists. Aptly called Innovation Lives Here: A New Generation of Pittsburgh, the new exhibition showcases work by 20 artists at the Pittsburgh Technology Council's (PTC) 15 Minutes Gallery, one of the latest cultural venues to emerge within the city's thriving arts scene.
On view through January 21, 2010, the dynamic collection features work from a staggering variety of media, from the traditional to the cutting edge, and reflects the diverse modes, media and practices employed by our region's artists. Visitors to Innovation Lives Here: will have the opportunity to view fabric art alongside robotic installations and oil paintings displayed with gigapan technology. Featured artists in the PTC's special G-20 show include Francis Crisafio, Zheng Yang, Ron Nigro, Alan Byrne, Kaoru Tohara, Rick Byerly, Ruth Hendricks, and Sandy Kessler.
The PTC's 15 Minutes Gallery is open to the public during the G-20 Summit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on weekdays through January 21, 2010.

Pittsburgh Galleries Blog Goes On Hiatus
This blog will no longer be a comprehensive listing of Pittsburgh art events but the good news is that there's a new blog which is doing a great job of covering the scene: Bittersweet Harvest. To have an event listed there email the info to bsharvest(AT)hotmail.com. The url is http://bittersweetharvest.blogspot.com/ .
I'm not sure what this blog will become. Perhaps in the fall it will re-emerge.

Carnegie Mellon's School of Art website has been revamped and you can now sign up for their new email newsletter by sending an email to artscool@andrew.cmu.edu with the subject:
D-LIST ME!
It's a great resource for the area and I don't want to duplicate their great efforts there so be sure to sign up. Between their news, ThisIsHappening.com and the Pittsburgh Galleries blog you will be kept well informed as far as art events. Note that I don't blog normally about the Carnegie affiliated museums too much (they do well communicating their events to members). Be sure to check out all the Pittsburgh blogs I link to on the right hand side farther down on the main blog page.
I will be gradually focusing more on blogging primarily about underserved/ underrepresented Pittsburgh artists and art events. Galleries and other outfits who don't fit into that category can become a blog sponsor or advertise to have their events blogged.

I'm hoping to keep up the volunteer effort here and could use some help. Passing the word on to anyone in the Pittsburgh region who has even a remote interest in visual art and asking them to bookmark or subscribe the blog would be a huge help. There are a ton of art events going on in the area and the blog is an attempt to get the word out on "quality" art events.
Most of the traffic to this blog is a result of search engine tagging (accounts for 8,000 of the 10,000 monthly hits right now) and in order for me to take this to the next level I'm looking for return visits. Also I need your input on whether to continue the Pittsburgh art articles summary for the month, eg November is here, as well as the monthly art event guide, November 2008 is here.
If you have a blog or website linking the blog and website would be great. Yours may even be linked on my blog already, if not then shoot me an email. Donations, advertising, and sponsor info is here.
Thanks, I appreciate your help.

November 11 – December 6, 2008 Seeking the Blue Bird of Happiness
Fresco, Epoxy, Cast Resin and Reverse Paintings by Iramly
Grand-daughter of the famous German Expressionist painter Hans Grohs, Irmaly’s style is inspired by her European background and experience through studies in the Paris American Art Academy, Danish Fold Art, as well as French and German Expressionism. She has worked with numerous renowned artists and developed her own unique style of art.
With hand framed paintings, worked in oil, acrylic, or reverse 3D effects, paint on layers of resin or in a resin casting from foam mold creating low relief, plexi frames with epoxy clay, or low relief glass, sealed in resin, come and discover why the adjective “creative” does not begin to describe Irmaly!
