teapots! steep in thought opens at morgan contemporary glass gallery, 5833 ellsworth avenue, on October 3, 2008. The show marks morgan’s 3rd invitational and its first thematic teapot exhibition, which challenges invited artists to respond to the ideas, issues and realities of the current social, political and environmental climate. Whether witty, serious, or satirical, each artist explores the form literally, metaphorically, narratively or abstractly.

More than 30 national and international artists have been selected to participate in this year’s exhibition, which will feature teapots in all media to capture the versatility of the teapot form as well as to convey the topical theme of the show. Selected artists include Alex Adams, Ellen Abbott & Marc Leva, Kate Anderson, Michael & Maureen Banner, Mary Beth Bellah, Tina Betz, Joan Dulla, Ed Eberle, Julie Elkins, Brian Frus, Grant Gramezy, Gregory Grenon, Jay Macdonell, Steven McGovney, Robert Mickelsen, Inge Roberts, Kari Russel-Pool, Kevin Snipes, Hisano Takei, Cheryl Tall, and Tim Tate. “Many of these artists have never made teapots”, notes gallery director Amy Morgan. “We ask that their pieces be representative of their work, and bear some resemblance to a teapot form. We never quite know what we’ll get.”

morgan contemporary glass gallery presents cutting-edge exhibitions and also features sculpture, small objects and jewelry by established and emerging artists working with glass. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 12 to 5 pm, or by appointment. For more information call 412-441-5200 or visit our website at http://www.morganglassgallery.com/ .
