Rock for Obama Pittsburgh, PA
A group of local bands announced today that they have organized a Rock for Obama show on September 19, 2008. The goal of this show is a collaborative event to increase political awareness and participation for this monumental election and as always enjoy talent of up and coming bands as well as the art exhibition THE BRIJ: THE EXPANSE WE PASS OVER.
The Brij is a group of contemporary abstract painters based in Pittsburgh,with the stated purpose of bridging the gap between artists in other cities and on a global scale. Works by Mark Gualtieri, Rob Katkowski, Maria Macioszek, Jen Murray, and Shawn Watrous. The art exhibit is at Garfield Artworks from September 5- 28, 2008.
Rock for Obama: September 19, 2008, festivities begin at 7pm hosted by Garfield Artworks (All ages show) and continue to the 10pm after party hosted by the Brillobox. The All ages portion of the show features two guest speakers, voter and volunteer registration, and the featured bands include an acoustic set by John Huffman, the debut performance by Big Hurry (dance punk mixed with 80's synth rock), Dawn Canon (distorted guitar over catchy dreamy melodies, and Axelrod (epic,melodic rock); suggested donation $5. The afterparty hosted by the Brillobox will continue at 10pm, $5 cover will feature Gene Stovell,Jack Wilson, Famous Mr. Nobodiez, and Knowledge).
