If you've never been to the Unblurred Gallery Crawl along Penn Ave in Garfield (Bloomfield and East Liberty as well) you're missing out on a major part of the Pittsburgh art scene. It happens the first Friday of every month (except January) and most venues open up at 7pm.

Don't know where to start? Pick any gallery or venue from the list below and pick up a program which has a map. But really all you have to do is just walk down Penn Ave in Garfield and see all the people coming in and out of venues. Each venue has refreshments and snacks and a lot of art to check out and buy. Remember that Unblurred continues to exist because those who are passionate about art buy what strikes them.

Curated by Mike Tamburo, this festival has a mind-boggling array of performers spread out over Saturday and Sunday. I'll be performing at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Here's a link to more information:

Local experimental musician Mike Tamburo -- known for his work with Arco Flute Foundation; his solo guitar, dulcimer and electronic music; and his label, New American Folk Hero -- has been known to spend months out of the year touring. His latest venture, though, is kind of like a tour in reverse: Instead of exporting Tamburo from Pittsburgh, he's bringing folks he's met while on the road into town for his second annual Fantastic Voyagers festival, a two-day event taking place this weekend at ModernFormations Gallery.

Modern Formations Gallery in Garfield, Pittsburgh PA has a great ceramics show March 7-23 2008

A standout exhibit from my visit to the Unblurred Gallery Crawl this past Friday March 7, 2008 is the Americana Refigured Ceramics Exhibit at ModernFormations Gallery in Garfield. I don't like to be an unnecessary filter so I won't provide any "review-like" criticism except that it's a must see exhibit in my opinion. More info on the artists and theme can be found at http://www.modernformations.com/ . Runs from March 7 to March 23, 2008.

During the NCECA conference their hours are Wed-Sat 9am to 7pm.
