This is a good piece on Randy Gilson of Randyland on the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA, link here. It could have had more video on Randyland itself though.
Now if we can just get foundations and deep pockets to pay more attention they might learn a thing or two from Randy and help him move forward with his plans.
Randy is an amazing person and his vision is vibrant.
On January 15, 2004 The Pittsburgh City Paper covered a story here, The Pittsburgh Tribune Review did a August 18, 2007 article on him here and Pop City did a piece on him Feb 6, 2008 here.
A July 2007 Chicago Tribune article can be found here as well. The video here.

thanks for the heads up go to friend Jim Storch:
Just wanted to let you know that I'm participating in the Fantastic Voyagers 2 Festival this weekend at ModernFormations gallery. Curated by Mike Tamburo, this festival has a mind-boggling array of performers spread out over Saturday and Sunday. I'll be performing at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Here's a link to more information:
http://www.pittsburghcitypaper.ws/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A55642
Local experimental musician Mike Tamburo -- known for his work with Arco Flute Foundation; his solo guitar, dulcimer and electronic music; and his label, New American Folk Hero -- has been known to spend months out of the year touring. His latest venture, though, is kind of like a tour in reverse: Instead of exporting Tamburo from Pittsburgh, he's bringing folks he's met while on the road into town for his second annual Fantastic Voyagers festival, a two-day event taking place this weekend at ModernFormations Gallery.

Pittsburgh Art Info, a volunteer effort comprised of the Pittsburgh Galleries blog and the Pittsburgh Gallery Directory , welcomes it's first sponsor, Sirani Gallery of Squirrel Hill.
Address 5875 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15217 Phone 412.422.2121
New Artists:
Sirani Gallery derives its name from Elisabetta Sirani, a talented Italian artist (1638-1665). When she died at 27 she already had produced over 200 paintings, drawings and etchings. She ran her family’s art workshop and supported her parents, three siblings and herself from the age of 19 years until her death. Sirani was a native of Bologna, a city famous for its progressive attitude toward women’s rights as well as for producing other successful female artists. She was first trained by her father and then by a family friend and influential art critic, Count Carlo Cesare Malvasia, who became her mentor. Elisabetta Sirani quickly became known for her ability to paint beautifully finished canvases quickly and exactingly. Her portraits, mythological subjects, and images of the Holy Family were acquired by wealthy and royal patrons, including the house of de Medici. Besides leaving an important painting legacy, through Sirani’s own teaching, more than a dozen other young women and her sisters later became professional painters.
