June 22, 2010 - Artists of any medium who live and/or work in Lawrenceville are invited to submit artwork for an upcoming exhibition at be Galleries in Lawrenceville. The show, tentatively titled Made in Lawrenceville (You May be Surprised to Know) will open on July 10th and will run through July 31st. A wide range of art, materials, handmade goods, and other items fabricated in Lawrenceville will be highlighted. The show will seek to cover a variety of artistic mediums as far-ranging as fashion and textile design, soap-making, clay, printmaking, as well as more traditional painting and sculpture. The materials portion of the show will be curated by Janice Donatelli of Artemis Environmental and the art portion will be curated by gallery owner Joy Borelli-Edwards.
Interested Lawrenceville artists may bring up to three pieces of work to be Galleries (3583 Butler Street) on Friday, June 25th between 11am-6pm to be considered for the show. A stolen overcoat, a murdered thief. The people of 19th-century Pittsburgh made some mistakes. Sometimes those bad decisions are all we know of 'em.

Public Record is a multi-media art project using documentary poems, written from 19th-century Pittsburgh crime reports, that you can experience as audio performances via your mobile phone - in the Downtown locations where these events actually occurred.
Public Record debuts with a show at 937 Liberty featuring contributions from a barrage of local artists (see below), and including a version of the piece to be experienced in the gallery, via any mobile phone!
(PS - Besides the obligatory beer and wine, we'll be serving up yummy Pimm's Cups for your summer lovin')
Live like you're at Rice's Castle or Snyder's Saloon with Shattock and Hughey Friel, just one more time.

Under Deconstruction: Transformazium, Braddock PA Arts Revival
Under Deconstruction: Transformazium
Deconstruction is the selective dismantling of a building for the purpose of reusing the materials to build new structures, and it is this process which Ruthie, along with formerly Brooklyn based artists Leslie Stern, Dana Bishop-Root, and Caledonia Curry (better known as Swoon), are using to turn their building into a community arts center called the Transformazium.
Although a lot of hard work still needs to be done deconstructing and rebuilding the Transformazium, the future seems bright. Swoon lives in Brooklyn, but is currently building an adobe dome in the lot across the street from the Transformazium, which will function as a community greeting space. Leslie, Dana, and Ruthie have completed two large projects that involved the community's participation. It's clear that the Transformazium is becoming more than a community arts center, but just what that will be remains uncertain, even to the Transformazium. "We are going to let it evolve more organically, and with input from our neighbors as well. We are definitely working towards a community garden in the lot, though", says Leslie.

Reverberation: Rhythm, reflection and balance are the ideas that organize this work and preoccupy its maker. Five new works will be installed in large and small-scale spaces that exist between the architecture. The exhibition will also include a new collaborative experimentation with sound artist Herman Pearl.

We'll be serving delicious pizza made on site in the community brick oven with all sorts of tasty toppings and of course beer from our friends at East End Brewery will be ice cold on tap. Bring the kids, mates and dates.

Pittsburgh Society of Artists “Urban Dreams” exhibit at Fein Art Gallery
“Urban Dreams” Exhibit description: Increasing technologies, multicultural diversity and global exchange heighten our subconscious fears and euphoric hopes for the future. This exhibit challenges artists to abandon linear thinking and pursue interpretations of urban dreams. Using media of their choice, artists explore the hopes and/or fears of the global impact upon our urban environments. The show includes 38 Pieces by 31 artists selected by Juror Kathleeen Zimbicki.
Carol Skinger with her fake urban plan for East Liberty which received a Juror’s Award. In her artwork titled “urban renewal nightmare dream for East Liberty” Pittsburgh artist Carol Skinger poses as an urban planner with Robert Moses, R.K. Mellon and Mosites Co.’s names crossed out as players for the role. Skinger attempts to decisively associate East Liberty with the global green movement by imposing 80 green rooftops on the buildings, and in doing so, play catch up with Chicago, US leader in green roofs. Through the writing on the frame it is also a meditation on “green” recalling the green forest East Liberty once was, the green “liberty” it then became as in free cattle grazing area, the green, as in value and money that was made from it and contiguous lands- when it was developed and subdivided by Thomas Mellon. He gained a real-estate toe hold here, which became the basis for his future ventures, through his marriage to Sarah Jane Negley. Other artistic embellishments Skinger proposes: organic gardens, a lazy river moat ride around East Liberty Presbyterian Church, outdoor pools and a summer stage (orange) for a “Chris Ivey Film Festival” (who she assigns the role of Jane Jacobs) in the middle of it all. East Liberty becomes Liberty Green, a fantasy worth exploring.

thrilled to announce our upcoming *Communion III *fundraising party, which
will be next *Saturday, June 19th*! Thanks to everyone who has come out to
our past parties for making them so much fun - we hope to see lots of both

Fe Gallery is proud to present:
"Tribute Show" honoring the inspiration and achievements of
John Metzler. John was a driving force in the art community and his
generous spirit created ripples that impacted all who know him.
As part of this exhibition, Fe gallery would like to continue the
ripples by turning this exhibition into an opportunity. Under the
advisement of Randie Snow, John’s exhibition will be a fundraiser for
his daughter, Chelsie and Urban Tree Forge. Therefore, Fe will be
