An affirmation in a time of crisis

Free market economics has triggered the onset of The GreatDepression 2.0. The planet is getting so hot you could light a cigarette just by holding it outside your car window. The Large Hadron Collideris on the verge of creating a Black Hole that could swallow up the Earth. As we dive headlong into the Apocalypse, let's take a moment to breathe, relax and engage in contemporary Art!

Not a ton of Pittsburgh art events around Halloween which makes sense but here are some great art events to check out.

Wednesday October 29, 2008:

Altered Meanings: Featuring works by Cat Chow & Jesse McLeanReceptions: Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m

Thursday October 30, 2008:

Unearthed at the Ice House Unearthed features artwork crafted from trees felled in Allegheny Cemetery.

Friday October 31 2008:

Chick with Dicks: Bad Girls on Bikes doing Bad Things, a 60’s B-movie parody with a twist. Chicks is set in and around Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania’s very own nuclear power plant. The irreverently absurd plot centers around Vespa de Amore, a prom queen runner-up who accidentally kills her sex-shy boyfriend and ends up on the road with an all-girl biker gang named Satan’s Cherries. This wild ride features plenty of go-go dancing, hair pulling, mud wrestling, and kung fu fighting as these good-girls-gone-bad get even worse!

I Heart Pgh always has great event info.

The Sprout Fund will host its sixth annual Hothouse event on Saturday, August 23, 2008 on the upper floors of The Union Trust Building in Downtown Pittsburgh. There are still volunteer opportunities the night of and day after the event. Check out all the events here!

Doors open at 7pm for VIP ticket holders and 9pm for all others.

Buy your tickets today! Volunteer registration now available!

About Hothouse

Hothouse is The Sprout Fund’s annual benefit and showcase event. The event serves as a stage to present a sampling of some of the innovative projects and emerging leaders of successful community initiatives supported by Sprout over the past year. Held annually at unique development sites, the event celebrates the organization’s accomplishments and features live music and performances, food and drink by Pittsburgh favorites, a silent auction, and a VIP reception.
As The Sprout Fund’s “live annual report” to the community, the event creates an incredible opportunity for the wide cross-section of Pittsburgh’s business and social circles that come together each year in support of Sprout’s mission to meet and mingle. The event has been lauded previously as one of the top 5 parties of the year by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the city’s “top fundraiser” by the Pittsburgh City Paper. The event attracted more than 2,000 attendees in 2006 and 2007.

Support for the event has been strong every year; last year 37 financial sponsors, 4 media sponsors, 40 in-kind supporters, 36 food & drink sponsors, and 75 silent auction donors joined hundreds of friends of the organization to raise more than $100,000 for The Sprout Fund....
