3 Rivers Arts Festival: The Art of Technology

Looks like a good start to shedding the 3 Rivers Food Festival hangover this festival has had for quite some time (that and the focus on many out of state market artists which still continues). You be the judge and check it aht for yourselves!

June 4-13 2010

The exhibits and performances may change the way we view art and technology, and help us to better realize the unlimited potential of each. Plus, they offer us some downright good times that are sure to benefit everyone’s Festival experience. Ranging from digital puppetry to interactive sculptures and robots, video installations, and an interactive exhibit requiring text messages from viewers. Following are a few glimpses into what you will see on the visual arts side; we’ll cover performances in another post.

David Edwards’ 14′ tall sculpture made from 80% recycled aluminum takes the shape of a potted sunflower. Its wind-powered spinning petals transform wind into energy using a micro wind turbine. In addition, there are flexible solar panels that collect energy for programmable LED lighting. This exhibit and others can be seen at Point State Park.

Started on August 20, 2007.pittsburgh area galleries and art venues are listed at the sister site www.PghGalleries.com.the blog and website are volunteer projects from fine art photographer and pittsburgh art advocate rick byerly, www.RickByerly.com.

Artists' residency, technology to blend for innovation

By Allison M. Heinrichs

TRIBUNE-REVIEWMonday, January 19, 2009

The "Old and New Media Residency" enables artists based in Pittsburgh to take three months to work on projects in deeplocal's office and Encyclopedia Destructica's studios. During the residency, an artist would network with deeplocal's clients, get help with applying for grants and be introduced to people interested in art through an artist lecture and exhibition.
Artists will have access to deeplocal's technological tools and Encyclopedia Destructica's print-making equipment. They'll get up to $1,500 for supplies and receive artist access to Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Staff at deeplocal will dedicate a day each week to assisting the artists and teaching business principles.

15 Minutes Gallery Opening Reception Party June 12, 2008 at 5:30 pm Pittsburgh Technology Council

15 Minutes Gallery Opening Reception Party June 12, 2008 at 5:30 pm

Silver Eye Photographer Member and 15 Minutes Gallery participant Ruth E Hendricks gave me a heads up on this reception. RSVP is needed so head to http://www.15minutesgallery.org/ .

The Pittsburgh Technology Council is proud to announce the 15 MINUTES GALLERY — a new exhibition space that will showcase the works of regional artists and innovators. The 15 minutes Gallery will launch an exhibition beginning this June. All artwork will be displayed from June 1 through August 31, 2008.

Through this progressive initiative, it is the Council’s intent to recognize the synergy that exists between the technological and the artistic communities in Pittsburgh and the impact each component will have on the region’s future. To strengthen the link between these dynamic and innovative communities, the Council has partnered with Pittsburgh’s Sirani Gallery. All works of art in the 15 Minutes Gallery will be for sale to the general public.
