The Pittsburgh Art Blog features selected pittsburgh artists and upcoming exhibits with photos from the artists and galleries. since the major press outlets do not go beyond a directory listing of exhibits, blogs are needed to promote pittsburgh artists and their work. the blog also calls attention to the inferiority complex of pittsburgh art and how it's perpetuated by the major players in town. Open Thread is a new regional arts organization, which seeks to establish frameworks for artistic discovery in Pittsburgh and the surrounding tri-state area. Open Thread provides local communities with arts outreach, education, and opportunities for publication, performance or exhibition.

Open Thread is currently at work on its inaugural project: Open Thread Regional Review, Vol. 1, a journal series featuring regional art and literature. Our call for online submissions is always open, however submissions for Vol. 1 are officially closed. The Regional Review Vol. 1 will be released later this year, so check back soon for details about the release event.

Please join us at any of our upcoming events to help raise funds for the release of our journal. These events include our Variety Variety Variety show at brillobox, our new POETSBURGH reading series and more!

Future manifestations of Open Thread's goals will include publications, performances, readings, lectures, workshops, and much more. Check our Events page for up-to-date information, or to see how you can get involved.

We're always looking for writers, performance artists, dancers, burlesque performers, DJs, VJs, video artists, local bands, theatre troupes, art vendors…the list goes on and on!

The Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Carnegie Museums have decided to indefinitely postpone FLUX due to a reorganization of management and a full examination of the finances of the Three Rivers Arts Festival organization.

Two executives from The Andy Warhol Museum have been picked to oversee Pittsburgh’s annual Three Rivers Arts Festival. Colleen Russell Criste, the Warhol’s deputy director, will be acting director of the festival, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. Ben Harrison, the museum’s curator of performances, will perform the same function for the arts festival. Both officials will retain their duties at the Warhol museum, 1 of 4 museums operated by Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.Carnegie Museums officials say they are taking over the festival because of the event’s financial health and other concerns. The festival organizers are also responsible for the city’s annual First Night celebration each New Year’s.

AAP 98th Art Annual at the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA
