NCECA? It's the National Council on Education for Ceramic Arts. Pittsburgh Convention? It's their national convention happening from Wednesday March 19 through Saturday March 22, 2008. It means there's a lot of art to be seen during March of 2008 and beyond. Over 5,000 visitors will be in Pittsburgh to participate in the conference and many art groups, galleries, and artists are taking part by displaying art work.
The following art exhibit information was adapted from the NCECA schedule in order for anyone in the Pittsburgh area to find out what's happening during this exciting time for the NCECA and for Pittsburgh art. Conference members will most likely be on a tour bus on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 seeing these exhibits throughout the area.

· SPEAK OUT, Marlene Boyle. A solo exhibition of sawdust pit fired, pinched clay pots by Marlene Boyle, most calligraphically carved with expressions and thoughts from authors of word and song; some decorated with the shadow images of foliage or other embellishments used in the firing process. The pots must be touched or held, and turned to be read or viewed completely, putting the observer in intimate contact with their soft, sensual surface. Curated by Mary Coleman. Mar 14-Apr 25. · Topographies: Recent Sculpture by David S. East and Paul Sacaridiz. Considering notions of mapping and landscape in both literal and psychological terms, the exhibition Topographies will present recent sculpture by David S. East and Paul Sacaridiz. East is ultimately concerned with biochemistry, the suburban domestic environment, and its relationship to identity, while Sacaridiz is examining relationships between the decorative and utopian within constructions reminiscent of architectural models. Employing ceramic materials ranging from the highly articulate to the random and chaotic, the exhibition posits ceramic sculpture as a means of critically investigating a broad range of ideas.
