Celebration in the Park VI
July 26, 2008 at Allegheny Commons Park
Eclectic and Fun… Best Describes the North Side 2008 Celebration in the Park VI This year marks the Sixth Annual North Side Celebration in the Park on Saturday, July 26, from noon to 5:00p.m. in Allegheny Commons Park near Cedar Avenue. Join the North Side/ North Shore Chamber of Commerce along with North Side native, Jack “Johnny Angel” Hunt (Johnny Angel and the Halos), Chairperson of the event.
An activity packed day for all ages includes a chance to: see the Rodfathers of Butler Car Cruise; hear the Manchester Craftsmen’s All Star Jazz Group; test your knowledge of the North Side with the Children’s Museum "Where is Allegheny City Treasure Hunt"; see and make giant puppets and participate in the puppet parades featuring puppet cars; buy cool stuff from the Handmade Arcade artist vendors; eat great festival food; take a step back in time with Heinz History Center Pittsburgh 250 Tent; bring the kids so they can bounce, ride the train and meet really cool animals in the park both real and mascots; visit the Allegheny General Hospital Wellness Tent; take a bicycle ride around the North Side courtesy of Venture Outdoors; explore the public safety vehicles on display and check out the rest of the exhibitors and vendors that will be on hand for the day!
Each year the event offers a new creative theme for the Celebration. Jack, an active member in a number of car cruise groups was instrumental in organizing the car cruise that could be 250 classic cars or more on display that day. The puppet parade will also embrace the car cruise theme with handmade cars that were made by local children in workshops that were held by local Puppet Maker, Cheryl Capezzuti. A portion of the day will go to the dogs with a version of Canine Idol/beauty contest that has been promoted by The Animal Rescue League, Comcast and DogLogic.
The North Side Celebration in the Park from the inception has been designed to be uniquely North Side because of our abundance of cultural resources, artists and civic organizations. Celebration in the Park offers unique opportunities for parents, children, and people of all ages to enjoy cultural activities and educational experiences as well.
